Regional Resident Rotations
WWAMI is an enduring partnership between the University of Washington, School of Medicine and the States of Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. The WWAMI name is derived from the first letter of each of the five cooperating states. The WWAMI program's purpose is to provide access to publicly supported medical education across the five-state region.
Residents participating in accredited programs in GME at the University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics will have an eight week rotation within the WWAMI region during their pediatric residency.
Since 1973, the Department of Pediatrics has required an eight week rotation within regional community-based sites. Currently these sites are located in Port Angeles, Washington; Yakima, Washington; Bellingham, Washington; Sandpoint, Idaho and Pocatello, Idaho. Each resident currently completes an eight week rotation during their second year of residency. Residents report this to be one of the most valuable experiences of their entire three years of training.
