Brand Guidelines & Design Templates

The Communications Team provides brand guidelines and design templates to meet the varied needs of our department and to help foster brand consistency. Utilizing these guidelines provides a clear sense of organizational identity. As a department within UW Medicine, we benefit from the wide recognition and strong reputation of the UW Medicine brand. By presenting ourselves consistently and professionally, we reinforce trust, demonstrate unity, and strengthen the reputation of the UW Department of Pediatrics.

Colors & Fonts

UW Pediatrics uses the same shade of purple as the University of Washington, taking advantage of the strong UW brand equity. A modern gradient treatment is also available, which helps add life, movement, and energy to our header, footer, and color blocks. Our secondary palette complements our primary colors, adding flexibility to our communications and also offering a more modern and friendly feel through a variety of hues.

PowerPoint Presentation

UW Pediatrics consists of faculty, staff, and researchers deployed at multiple locations, and with varying presentation needs. The below template reflects the branding of the department, aligned with UW Medicine, and should be used in all settings where department branding is appropriate.

The Communications Team is currently working on a co-branded presentation template, which will reflect both UW Medicine and Seattle Children's branding. Co-branded documents require approval from both institutions. We will update this page and add that template once the co-branding has been approved.

PowerPoint Accessibility Guidance

All slide decks should be created to be accessible in alignment with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This template has been formatted with ADA guidelines (WCAG 2.1 Level AA) in mind, but as you add content you will need to take additional steps to maintain accessibility. A checklist and clear instructions for checking accessibility in Microsoft PowerPoint is linked below.

E-Newsletters

UW Pediatrics uses a paid email management system to produce and manage our weekly digital newsletter. We are not currently set up to add division newsletters to this system. If your division is looking to add a newsletter, you can consider:

  • Creating a printable newsletter using UW Medicine templates. Please be aware that newsletters saved as PDFs are not advisable due to accessibility concerns.
  • Creating a basic html email newsletter in Outlook.
  • Using an email automation system like MailChimp or ConstantContact. These options offer some free services, and charge for advanced features or larger recipient lists.

The UW Pediatrics communications team can provide advice and guidance on creating an appropriate email header or template, and design support if you choose to use MailChimp's free tools. Please reach out for additional guidance if needed.

Photography

Photography should follow UW Medicine guidelines and best practices. Make sure that photos prioritize the patient's experience and perspective, capture genuine interactions, and represent a diversity of ages, genders, and ethnicities.

Photos that are used on our website or public-facing materials require the appropriate consent and release form.

While much of our work takes place at Seattle Children's, all photography from Children's hospital and clinics is managed by their marketing and communications team and should not be used for materials not owned by Children's.

Photography Resources

Free Images

There are many free sources of stock images. Stock image choices should follow our same photography standards.  They should not be staged, dramatically retouched, or manipulated. They should not be used as decoration only.

Check the licenses and terms of use to confirm that they are free to use, and whether they require specific crediting or attribution.
