Dr. Schenkman attends in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He has an active research program developing optical spectroscopic technologies for clinical assessment of intracellular oxygenation and mitochondrial function. He has been awarded several U.S. patents for his pioneering work on developing an intracellular oxygen monitor. He has published dozens of manuscripts and abstracts in the field of optical spectroscopy for physiologic and clinical applications, and has published several book chapters on pediatric critical care topics. He also has been an active reviewer for journals in the fields of medicine, physiology and engineering.
