New Faculty Title Approved!

The UW Faculty Senate and the UW President have approved a new faculty title "Professor of Clinical Practice" in which individuals would be Assistant, Associate, or Professor of Clinical Practice. The School of Medicine will work to develop an implementation plan for this new title, which will occur over the next year.

We anticipate that this track will replace the current Academic Clinician track. Individuals in this track will be appointed for a longer term than the current one-year appointment of Academic Clinicians and will have voting rights. As you know, each Department in the School of Medicine writes their own appointment and promotion criteria for faculty in each of the tracks in their Department. Once we receive more guidance from the School, we will develop those appointment and promotion guidelines for faculty in the Department of Pediatrics, which will be submitted for approval. We will provide further updates and guidance as the process moves forward.

We view this as an important change for our faculty which improves equity and recognizes the contributions of each faculty member who make up our Department as we address our mission:

Through excellence, innovation and collaboration, we will improve the health of all children and adolescents and reduce inequities by educating the pediatric and physician leaders of the future, advancing research, advocating for children and providing the nation's best primary and specialty pediatric clinical care. In partnership with our health care and academic institutions, we are committed to a diverse and inclusive department in which faculty, staff, and trainees can reach their personal and professional goals in a collegial environment.
