At UW Pediatrics, we treat others with respect. We encourage collaboration to make a difference. We embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion. These values – imbued in our community of faculty, trainees, and staff – help us go above and beyond our everyday work to improve health outcomes for children and families, both locally and globally.
Learn more about some of the important ways we create a brighter future through community-building, advocacy, global engagement, and environmental stewardship.
Advocacy
We are deeply engaged in the community to promote child health. Our Resident Education in Advocacy and Child Health (REACH) program trains future pediatricians to advocate effectively for children and families. Our faculty frequently serve as experts in the media and leaders in organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, further amplifying our voices.
Climate Change
Leading pediatric medical organizations acknowledge the importance of addressing climate impacts within pediatric care. Our Climate Change Clinical, Advocacy, Research, and Education (CARE) Committee aims to allocate resources and develop strategic actions and partnerships to reduce the disproportionate impact of climate change on children's health.
Global Health
The Global Health Collaborative (GHC) is dedicated to improving child health and survival around the world by harnessing the expertise of UW Pediatrics faculty and trainees. GHC supports advocacy, research, and education in pediatric global health, while fostering collaboration and mentorship for those pursuing careers in this field.
Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
Our Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee champions equity and inclusivity for all faculty and staff. Focused on community building, training, recruitment, and mentorship, this work supports a culture in which everyone in our community can thrive and deliver the highest quality care.
Resident-Led Community Building
The Diversity Committee (DComm) is a resident-led and faculty-mentored team that works in parallel with the JEDI Committee. Through a variety of activities, they seek to build inclusivity while celebrating people’s intersectional identities. As well, Peds Pride is a resident-led community of people focused on creating a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ healthcare providers and patients.
