Clinical Interests: Care of critically ill neonates, with focus on complex multi‐system disorders, critical respiratory failure, pulmonary hypertension, Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Congenital Heart Disease and ECLS in the neonate.
Scholarly Focus: Dr. Handley’s clinical research is in Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia through the BPD Program and the BPD Collaborative Network, Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia management through the CHNC CDH focus group, and Extracorporeal Life Support, specifically anticoagulation in the neonate on ECMO.
Administration/Education Roles: Associate Medical Director Seattle Children’s Hospital NICU
Neonatal Lead Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia team Seattle Children’s Hospital, and NICU Lead Extracorporeal Life Support team. She is a member of the Seattle Children’s Hospital Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team and the Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Program. Her educational roles include clinical training of residents, fellows, nurse practitioners and PA students at Seattle Children’s through scheduled didactic lectures and at the bedside, and facilitator of simulation education of all neonatal providers.
