Congratulations to Dr. Bonnie W. Ramsey on being honored with the prestigious 2025 APS John Howland Award! This recognition by the American Pediatric Society (APS) highlights her outstanding contributions to pediatric medicine and her dedication to advancing the field. It's a well-deserved accolade for someone who has made a significant impact! This distinguished recognition is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to advancing child health and the profession of pediatrics.

The award ceremony is set to take place during the APS Presidential Plenary at the Pediatric Academic Societies 2025 Meeting, scheduled for April 24-28 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The John Howland Award has been an esteemed acknowledgment within the pediatric community since its inception in 1952. It was named after clinician-scientist Dr. John Howland.

Dr. Ramsey, a Professor Emerita in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine, is recognized for her extensive work in cystic fibrosis (CF). Over her career, she has played a pivotal role in transforming treatments and outcomes for patients with this condition. Her research has significantly shaped clinical practice, establishing outcome measures and study designs now considered standard in CF care.

In addition to her position with the University of Washington, Dr. Ramsey is a Senior Advisor to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics Development Network and has been a key figure in developing new therapeutics that have dramatically increased the life expectancy for children with CF—now predicted to be over 60 years for those born between 2019 and 2023. This is a remarkable increase from just 32 years three decades ago.

"Dr. Ramsey has made an extraordinary impact on pediatric pulmonology and the care of patients with cystic fibrosis," said Dr. Clifford W. Bogue, President of the APS. "She is a leader, researcher, clinician, advocate, and mentor, and her contributions have left a lasting mark on the field of pediatrics."

In addition to her research accomplishments, Dr. Ramsey has dedicated herself to mentoring young professionals in medicine. She has guided many fellows and junior faculty, fostering a new generation of leaders in the medical field. Most recently, she participated in the APS SPR Journeys Program, aimed at supporting junior and underrepresented faculty.

Dr. Ramsey's national leadership extends to her service on several committees and advisory boards, including the National CTSA Consortium Child Health Oversight Committee and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Working Group on Future Research Directions in CF Lung Disease. She has also contributed her expertise to various external advisory boards across prominent institutions, including Harvard University and the University of North Carolina.

The APS will proudly present Dr. Bonnie W. Ramsey with the 2025 John Howland Award, recognizing her remarkable contributions to pediatrics and her lasting influence on child health.
