Clinical Interests:  Global maternal-neonatal health, growth and nutrition in the neonate, management of complex infections in the high-risk neonate, antimicrobial stewardship in the NICU

Scholarly Focus: Dr. Hendrixson’s research focuses on improving maternal and early infant nutrition to optimize growth and improve long-term outcomes in low- and middle-income settings. He works on clinical and clinical-translational trials targeting populations at high-risk for undernutrition and growth faltering. He is currently co-investigator for a randomized controlled clinical trial in Sierra Leone assessing ready-to-use supplementary foods for the treatment of undernutrition in pregnancy. Additionally, he serves as the PI of a study investigating the interactions of the intestinal microbiome and plasma metabolome with infant growth among HIV-exposed uninfected infants in Kenya. He is an affiliate investigator with the University of Washington Nutrition Obesity Research Center and the University of Washington/ Fred Hutchinson Center for AIDS Research.

Administration/Education Roles: Locally, Dr. Hendrixson is a member of the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program Evaluation committee at UW/SCH, UW CLABSI Reduction Committee, ALIGN (Advancing learning and innovation in global neonatology), and MIND (Microbial Interactions with Nutrition and Development). Nationally, Dr. Hendrixson is a member of the CHNC Infectious Diseases Focus Group. Internationally, he serves as a contributing member to the Management of At-Risk Mothers and Infants Under Six Months (MAMI) Special Interest Group within the Emergency Nutrition Network. Educational responsibilities include training pediatricians, fellows, neonatal advanced practitioners, and other advanced practice providers through his work in the Division of Neonatology and the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases.
