Director, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center for CF Microbiology (CCFM lab)
Vice Chair of Research
Dr. Luke Hoffman is an attending physician at Seattle Children’s and a professor and vice chair in the UW Department of Pediatrics. A board-certified pediatric pulmonologist, his clinical expertise includes cystic fibrosis, chronic respiratory infections, asthma, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, restrictive lung disease, and many other respiratory disorders of children. Dr. Hoffman’s research focuses on chronic lung infections, particularly in children with cystic fibrosis and non-CF bronchiectasis, with an emphasis on understanding why these infections are often resistant to standard antibiotic therapies. His laboratory also uses a variety of laboratory methods, including both culture-based and culture-independent (microbiome) methods to understand how microbes contribute to disease and respond to treatments throughout the body, including both the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. Dr. Hoffman also serves as director of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Center for CF Microbiology, and he is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Thoracic Society, and the American Society for Microbiology.
