Professional Bio

Dr. Jason Deen is a professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology, and serves as vice chair for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the UW Department of Pediatrics. He specializes in congenital heart disease across the lifespan and preventive cardiology in children and adolescents. He is the founder and director of UW Medicine’s Center for Indigenous Health and a graduate of the American Indian Health Pathway at the University of Minnesota Medical School’s Center of American Indian and Minority Health. Dr. Deen also serves as chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Native American Child Health and co-chair of the American College of Cardiology’s Internal Medicine Pathway program, where he leads the Indigenous cohort. As a Multiple Principal Investigator of the Strong Heart Study, his research focuses on cardiovascular health disparities in American Indian communities and cardiovascular risk stratification in American Indian youth.
