Before you submit files to be added to the Department of Pediatrics website, the files must meet university and federal guidelines for digital accessibility.

Important: It is your responsibility to complete the following checks before submission.

PDFs

For PDF files, follow the steps outlined by UW: Checking PDFs for Accessibility

If using the PDF Accessibility Checker tool, make sure to check against the WCAG guidelines – PDF/UA compliance is not required.

If your team does not have Adobe Acrobat Pro, PDF remediation options include Little Forest or sharing files as a Word or other Office document instead of a PDF.

Office Files (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)

For Microsoft Office files, use UW’s page on Making Documents Accessible and the Quick Cards to check accessibility:

Some elements are not included in the tool and require manual checking. Pay attention to heading structure and make sure links have descriptive text.

Videos

Before submitting a video, check accessibility using UW’s Video Accessibility page.

Videos uploaded to the Pediatrics YouTube account can be auto-captioned, but they will need to be checked for accuracy. If you are working with a video production company, please raise accessibility with them early in the development process.
