Network Infrastructure
The Department of Pediatrics maintains secure, fault-tolerant network infrastructure for document storage, application hosting, network printing, and high-performance computing analysis.
Back to topNetwork Document Storage
Departmental and division documents are stored on highly-available, enterprise-class storage servers which are mirrored and backed up nightly with data “snapshots” taken during business hours.
Back to topBackup and Disaster Recovery
Pediatrics maintains a tape library and in addition to the network storage system’s internal daily, weekly and monthly snapshots. Critical departmental data and other non-static data is backed up nightly to tape. Full weekly backups are retained for 3 months and full monthly backups are retained for 1 year for disaster recovery purposes. For labs and research requiring longer-term data archive and retention, we recommend using the UW LOLO archive system ($3.45/TB/mo) and can assist with acquiring those services.
Pediatrics IT strongly encourages saving all work on secure department network storage, or UW Microsoft OneDrive, Teams, or SharePoint. However, we are happy to assist in setting up individual computing device backups via UW CrashPlan at an annual cost of $124.
Back to topSecurity and Compliance
Pediatrics IT follows the security standards set by UW Medicine Information Technology Services and UW Office of Information Security for system and device security. All systems and devices must comply with these standards.
Standard Windows and MacOS endpoint devices are secured using passwords, drive encryption and other managed settings using MECM (Windows) and JAMF (MacOS) through our partnership with SOM TECHdesk ensuring computing device compliance with UW and UW Medicine policies and standards.
