Heather Anne McPhillips, MD, MPH

Clinical, Research and/or Teaching Responsibilities
Dr. McPhillips was a medical student at the University of Chicago where she graduated with honors. She then completed her pediatric residency at University of California San Francisco in 1997. She moved to Seattle in 1998 to begin a general academic pediatric fellowship and has been here ever since. She has been Associate Residency Director for the past 10 years and in this capacity is the director of intern selection and recruitment, works on curriculum development and evaluation, faculty development, and resident mentoring as well as the many other tasks involved in helping to run a residency program. Dr. McPhillips spends her clinical time working as a general pediatrician at the UW Roosevelt Pediatric Care Center and as a preceptor in continuity clinic as well as attending on the general medicine wards at Seattle Children's Hospital and in the newborn nursery at the University of Washington. Her research interests have focused on medical education and patient safety. She is currently enrolled in the Teaching Scholars program at the University of Washington for 2010-11 and is focusing her research this year on promoting resiliency in resident physicians.
