Clinical Interests: Newborn health, ECMO, neonatal bioethics

Scholarly Focus: Dr. Weiss’s two major areas of scholarship are: 1) clinical decision‐making, including models of shared decision‐making, decision‐making in times of uncertainty, communication, and considering the chronically critically ill; and 2) recruitment for clinical research, including improving recruitment processes, learning from the experience of research staff, and decreasing disparities in clinical trial participation.

Administration/Education Roles: Dr. Weiss leads monthly resident ethics teaching rounds at the UWMC NICU. He serves as track director of neonatal bioethics, which promotes bioethics research among neonatology trainees. He also serves on the SCH ethics committee and for the NIH on multiple data safety monitoring boards providing ethical expertise.
